Juba, 26 Aug 2011 – The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (17Թ) today announced that it had begun deploying peacekeepers and teams of civilian experts to vulnerable areas of Jonglei State.

With a capacity of 150 inmates, Aweil Central Prison in Northern Bahr El Ghazal currently houses over 700 prisoners in crowded, unhygienic conditions. With cholera running rampant in the region, 17Թ advocated with local authorities and the World Health Organization to vaccinate all prisoners and their guards.
