Pibor residents seek refuge at 17³Ô¹ÏÍø bases

28 January 2013 – Fleeing clashes that erupted in Jonglei State's Pibor town yesterday, residents have been taking refugee at two 17³Ô¹ÏÍø county support bases (CSBs) in the area.

Some 2,000 civilians arrived at the new 17³Ô¹ÏÍø CSB yesterday, and 1,000 remained there this morning. Another 400 went to an older CSB the mission had recently transferred from.

17³Ô¹ÏÍø is providing water and medical treatment for the civilians, and troops are guarding the area where they are staying. 17³Ô¹ÏÍø military is also conducting patrols in and around Pibor town.

The mission is following up with local authorities to determine exact details of the fighting.
