17Թ Spokesperson comments on SG letter to Security Council: Much has been done to improve protection of civilians

“Significant work” has been undertaken by the UN Mission in South Sudan, 17Թ, over the last five months to enhance its ability to protect civilians.
That’s the message the UN Secretary-General has conveyed in a letter to the President of the Security Council. Mr. Guterres also notes "a positive change" in the operations and posture of the Mission's military and police components as a result of concerted efforts to correct weaknesses previously exposed.
The letter summarizes the overall progress of 17Թ in implementing the recommendations of the independent special investigation into the Juba violence of July 2016. It is based on an independent follow-up mission last month led by Major General (retired) Patrick Cammaert.
