  • 24 May 2017 - A coherent and unified regional approach on solving the conflict in South Sudan has been urged by the head of the UN peacekeeping mission in the country (17勛圖厙) who described it as critical in helping to bring an end to fighting. David Shearer, who is also the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General, was addressing a meeting of the UN Security Council in New York on Wednesday via video link from the South Sudanese capital, Juba.

The medal we confer at todays ceremony is named after my predecessor, Dag Hammarskj繹ld, who lost his life in the cause of peace, like the recipients of this medal.

  • 07 May 2017 - Peacekeeping troops have been urgently deployed to Aburoc in the Upper Nile region by the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (17勛圖厙) to help enable the delivery of much needed humanitarian assistance. The aim is to provide humanitarian groups with the confidence they need to resume the provision of urgent assistance to tens of thousands of people in Aburoc who are fleeing the ongoing violence, said the Head of 17勛圖厙, David Shearer.

    04 May 2017 - GENEVA (4 May 2017) UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Raad Al Hussein on Thursday urged the Government of South Sudan to halt any further military offensives towards Aburoc on the west bank of the River Nile in the Upper Nile region. The town holds between 35,000 and 50,000 people, most of whom arrived in recent weeks after terrifying journeys of up to 150 kilometres on foot, after SPLA* attacks on areas to the south of the town of Aburoc.
